Departing Kuching is relatively easy. You generally need to have your checked bags scanned before checking in for your flight. After dropping your bags off, if you are flying to an international destination, or another state of Malaysia outside of Sarawak, then you need to proceed through immigration.

After immigration, there's the usual security screening to check you and your hand-carried items. The usual rules apply, although it's not normally necessary to remove your shoes. Once you've completed the screening, you can go downstairs to the main concourse.
