Asia Airports Guide
Welcome to the first comprehensive guide to Asian airports! This "un-official" web site is designed to help you quickly and easily navigate the many different airports around Southeast Asia. This new site starts with the major airports in each country, with more domestic airports to be added later. Use the index below to quickly jump to the airport you're looking for:
- Cambodia
- Cambodia is the hot 'new' destination in Southeast Asia. Although the country boasts one of the most monumental temple complexes in all of Asia, Cambodia is still much less traveled than its neighbors Thailand and Vietnam.
- Pochentong International Airport
- Pochentong International Airport serves the Cambodian capital of Phnom Penh.
- Siem Reap International Airport
- The spectacular ruins of the Angkor Wat temple, along with more than 40 other structures around it, are the single biggest draw to Cambodia, and to get there by air you fly into Siem Reap's new airport.
- Indonesia
- Indonesia presents a unique challenge to the traveler. It consists of more than 10,000 inhabited islands spread across about 3,000 miles of ocean from the Asian mainland well into the Pacific. A tradition of trade stretching back nearly 1,000 years has given the many islands a diverse set of cultures to explore.
- Soekarno-Hatta International Airport
- The huge airport at Jakarta, the nation's capital, is one of the two main airports in Indonesia.
- Ngurah Rai International Airport
- Bali's main (and only) airport is Ngurah Rai International, which sits right on the ocean just south of the island's main tourist area.
- Malaysia
- Malaysia is often overlooked for people looking for a sun and fun holiday, although it really shouldn't be.
- Kuala Lumpur International Airport
- Kuala Lumpur's ultra-modern airport (airport code: KUL) is located a fair distance from the city, although it is quite close to the new government center at Putrajaya, as well as the F1 speedway at Sepang.
- Singapore
- Singapore is perhaps the easiest Southeast Asian city - it's "Asia Lite" you could say.
- Changi International Airport
- Singapore's Changi Airport, like the city, is a modern and efficient international airport. It's ranked as one of the world's most favorite airports.
- Thailand
- Thailand offers the tourist a somewhat unique experience in all of Southeast Asia. Unlike all of its neighbors, the country was never colonized by Western powers. At least not in the traditional sense. A long history of openness and adaptation means that the capitol of Bangkok in particular is a very western city.
- Suvarnabhumi International Airport
- Bangkok's new Suvarnabhumi (pronounced "suwannaboom") International Airport opened in September 2006, after nearly 30 years of planning and much controversy. The huge glass and fabric structure is thoroughly modern in overall structure, but inside you will find many examples of Thai art and architecture to let you know you've arrived in the Land of Smiles. It wasn't entirely smooth sailing, and in March 2007 the old Don Muang Airport had to be reopened for limited domestic traffic.
- Chiang Mai International Airport
- Chiang Mai's airport is rather small, but very busy since Chiang Mai is a very popular destination for both Thai and foreign tourists. The airport is on just two levels. The arrivals hall and check-in for departures are both on the ground floor. All departure lounges are reached through the second floor.
- Phuket International Airport
- Phuket is Thailand's largest island, a idyllic site for the country's premier international beach resort. Much of the island's charm is that the ocean facing west coast is lined with a series of bays where white sand beaches span between two rocky points. This makes for a series of relatively intimate places rather than one big unbroken stretch of sand lined with high rise hotels and packed with people.
- Krabi
- Krabi could well be described as the 'new Phuket' for the amount of development, much of which has taken place in just the last few years. Krabi's popularity is mainly due to its combination of fantastic limestone cliffs which march right down to sparkling white sandy beaches. Of course, there's also the clear waters filled with spectacular corals as well.
- Samui International Airport
- Samui's award-winning airport was built and is serviced mainly by Bangkok Airways flying from Bangkok, other parts of Thailand, and Singapore.
- Vietnam
- Vietnam - Just the name conjures up all kinds of images. After years of relative isolation, Vietnam is opening up to the tourist trade, sort of. There is quite a bit on offer, and it doesn't all necessarily have to do with recent history.
- Noi Bai International Airport
- Hanoi's small international airport (code: HAN) is a little less well served by international airlines than Ho Chi Minh City. Visitors coming from Europe may fly into Bangkok and then on to Hanoi via Thai or Vietnam Airlines. From the Americas, there are flights via Hong Kong and Taiwan.
- Tan Son Nhat International Airport
- Ho Chi Minh City's Tan Son Nhat international airport (code: SGN) is the main gateway to Vietnam for flights arriving from other countries. Most major international airlines fly to the city. A new international terminal was opened in September 2007, significantly upgrading the services available for the increasing number of people visiting Vietnam on business and pleasure.
