Low-Cost Carrier Terminal, Kuala Lumpur

In 2006, the super-modern KLIA airport saw the addition of a new terminal dedicated to serving low-cost airlines. More specifically, the terminal was built by the largest regional budget carrier, Air Asia. All of Air Asia's flights to and from Kuala Lumpur use the "LCCT" as it's called, and currently it is the only airline using the terminal.

While the low-cost terminal is at KLIA, it is a long way from the main terminal building. If you take the express train from Sentral, you will then need to take a shuttle bus from the main terminal to the low-cost terminal. From the train platform, take the escalators up one level, then follow the signs to the bus station. Buses leave about every 15 minutes and cost 1.50 Ringgit (0.43 USD). Alternatively, you can consider taking Air Asia's dedicated bus from Sentral directly to the LCCT. The cost is just 9 Ringgit (2.57 USD).

Just because it's a low-cost terminal doesn't mean there aren't any amenities. There's a McDonald's, Coffee Bean and food court in the public areas, as well as some more small shops in the departure halls.

The Low-Cost Carrier Terminal was undergoing a major expansion in late 2008. The work is scheduled to be completed by the end of the year, so some of this information may change.

For more information, see Air Asia's LCCT web page.
