I must admit: the KLIA Express train is my favorite way to get to and from the Kuala Lumpur International Airport. I'm always a bit disappointed when my business associates in KL insist on picking me up, and I usually beg off their offers to send me to the airport, just so I can take the train. Likewise, when taking a taxi to the station in KL, the drivers often offer to take me all the way to the airport for the price of the train, but why spend an hour and a half in a cab when the train gets me to the airport in 30 minutes?

When arriving on international flights, you can purchase a ticket for the express train at the counter just before you exit the customs area. There may also be a counter in baggage claim, but it doesn't seem to be manned at all times. You can also purchase tickets at the station on the lowest level of the airport. Make sure you follow the signs to the KLIA Express station. There is also a KLIA Transit service that follows the same route, but stops at three stations between the airport and Sentral.

To use the train service back to the airport, simply take a taxi to Sentral, Kuala Lumpur's integrated transportation hub. Taxis can drop you off outside the Express train area. If traveling on Malaysia Airlines, you can check your luggage at the station.
