Lao Airlines used to have a rather bad reputation. Their fleet consisted mostly of old cold-war era planes that were poorly maintained. Those days appear to be over. The planes have been replaced by eight new ATR-72 aircraft, and these will soon be joined by jets from Airbus.

Lao Airlines' route network covers the major tourist destinations of Laos, as well as neighboring countries. Their main hubs are Vientiane and Luang Prabang.

On board, all of Lao Airlines' planes have only a single class. Coach seating is generally comfortable enough. It's worth noting that most of the planes operated by Lao Airlines are ATR 72s, which have quite limited overhead storage. The airline serves hot meals on longer flights (over one hour) but may serve only water on short domestic routes.

Lao Airlines does not have a frequent flier program, or belong to any airline networks.
